Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture and Local People Peace Rugambwa has called on newly elected leaders in Rukungiri District to embrace unity, cooperation and a shared commitment to socio-economic transformation.
Rugambwa made the remarks during a swearing-in ceremony held in Rukungiri Municipality for the district’s new leadership.
Addressing leaders, stakeholders and residents gathered at the event, she emphasised that quality representation and effective oversight of government programmes were essential in improving livelihoods and lifting communities out of poverty.
“It is through unity that we become strong leaders capable of taking Rukungiri District to greater heights and making it a model for others,” Rugambwa said.
She urged councillors and district stakeholders to focus on service delivery that directly benefits people at the village level, stressing that harmonisation and cooperation within the district council would be critical in achieving the district’s development goals.
Rugambwa cautioned leaders against division and political disagreements that could undermine progress, encouraging them to place the interests of citizens above personal ambitions.
The ceremony attracted several national and local leaders, including Henry Tumukunde, the Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, who called for transparency and accountability in the appointment of district staff.
“Accountability in human resource decisions will strengthen public trust and improve institutional performance,” Tumukunde said.
Mary Paula Turyahikayo, the Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District, pledged to work closely with the district leadership to support programmes and projects aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting development.
The swearing-in ceremony marked the beginning of a new term for the Rukungiri District Local Government, with leaders expected to prioritise oversight, transparency and poverty reduction initiatives to drive local economic growth.
